About
the artist
Miko was born in Japan. She came to America, became a citizen
and continued her interest in art. She studied at Fashion
Institute of Technology in New York, graduating Summa Cum
Laude, and later at SUNY, Purchase where she received a Bachelor
of Fine Arts Degree, Cum Laude. She continued her studies
at New York University where she graduated with a Master's
Degree in Art.
Her
work has been shown at Katonah museum where she was selected
for a juried show called "All of a Piece" at Katonah
Museum (juried by Robert Storr, Curator, Department of painting
and sculpture, Museum of Modern Art, New York City). Over
1,000 pieces of work were submitted; 51 pieces were selected
for the show, including Miko's collage. Miko has shown her
art work in art galleries in New York City and around the
country.
Miko's
recent work, which is uniquely her own, evolves around abstract
figures which suggest spiritual and mystical aspects. Many
of her collages use organic materials, including paper and
ink, as well as paint. These collages have evolved slowly,
through intense hours of concentration; cutting papers with
scissors, working one collage at a time. The result is at
times compulsive, contemplative. Miko says, "The drive
to create is extremely complex and the process of creation
can be unclear until the work is finished."
Her
studio is located in Westchester County in New York State.
